My Brother’s Keeper is an all-volunteer effort geared toward educating men of color about health risks that are specific to them. The primary focus of the outreach is colorectal cancer screening and education. However, the group will cover many other health disparities including, but not limited to, HIV and heart disease. My Brother’s Keeper is funded by monies from American Cancer Society and West Virginia University Research & Development Corporation.
The program was recently introduced to the general public during its’ first annual Hoopin’ for Health, 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament at the historic JW Scott Community Center basketball court located in the Fairfield West area of Huntington. The event brought out a large segment of the target population and the community as a whole. Volunteers were able to distribute valuable information and generate an interest in the outreach’s cause and in EMO as a whole.
The My Brother's Keeper Philosophy is "Healthier men mean stronger families and stronger families equal thriving communities."
